Despite a rather interesting lineup of electric cars, Volkswagen is hard at work creating the lineup of electric cars of tomorrow, inevitably solving the obvious equations.
Internally, Volkswagen has been in some turmoil recently, causing concern on several issues, starting with the future of a historic factory in Wolfsburg after the postponement of a major investment project.
The 100% electric Volkswagen Tiguan will appear in 2026
But the brand wanted to reassure its employees. Indeed, Volkswagen has just announced production from 2026, electric SUV at its factory : “From 2026, our brand will have a new electric model (…), and we, here in Wolfsburg, will develop and build this new car.“, said Daniela Cavallo, president of the Volkswagen works council.
We will talk about the SUV in more detail 100% electric Tiguan. It remains to be seen if it will keep the same name or if it will be integrated into the ID range. According to the latest information available to us, Volkswagen has no intention of hiding the names of the models that have made it so successful, such as the Golf, which may also continue to operate even after the switch to electricity.
An updated ID.3 is also planned for Wolfsburg
Remember that this is not the only electric model produced in Wolfsburg. Indeed, the plant where the car giant has been based since 1938 should already be producing the upcoming facelifted ID.3 next year.
The plant was supposed to be fully dedicated to the automotive industry by 2024, but its medium-term future was uncertain as new CEO Oliver Blum announced delaying the development of the Trinity sedanwhich the factory had to produce due to software problems.
In front of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who was present at the general meeting, Oliver Blume reminded that electromobility remains “priority”, even if he seems to be in no hurry than his predecessor, Herbert Diess, to compete with America’s Tesla. He also confirmed it 11% of Volkswagen cars delivered in the world this year will be electric.
