Converting classic cars is starting to become a real trend in the UK. As we’ve seen recently, many Range Rover, Porsche and Rolls-Royce models have ditched the heat engine in favor of a stronger, zero-emission transmission.
And this trend continues with the latest creation of Lunaz, who got their hands on a very rare Bentley S2 Continental 1961. And obviously, the result will not necessarily please everyone, even if aesthetically the English sedan retains its charm of yesteryear. .
Electric motor instead of V8
This special configuration, released in just four examples, has been completely transformed by the British firm Lunaz, which specializes in the restomod of old cars. Engineers disassembled the car piece by piece, from the body to the 6.2-liter V8 block paired with an automatic transmission, replace them with much more modern components.
Some will take it as sacrilege, and some will simply see it as a way to keep a classic car up-to-date. The electric motor integrated into this model can boast 400 hp and at least 530 Nm of torque.
From 0 to 100 km/h is shot in space 6.9 seconds, while Lunaz also installed a new piloted suspension that can be adjusted directly from the cockpit. The braking system with front and rear discs has also been completely modernized.
Restomod taken to the extreme
Lunaz changes are not only about mechanics and chassis. The company offers a true restomod with modifications that go far beyond the simple addition of an electric motor.
On board we find more sustainable materials such as recycled nylon fibers or a special fabric made from olive leaves. The wooden products, for their part, are certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council, a non-governmental organization whose purpose is the proper management of forests and the traceability of the products obtained.
Lunaz does not specify the price of the entire conversion, but it is likely that the number is not too far from several 450,000 euros needed for Bentley S2 Continental Flying Spur restomod which also went through this in 2021.
