Speeding happens to all of us, although it is one of the most common traffic violations in France. But this little nonsense is far from trivial. Because, apart from being a danger to yourself and those around you, driving too fast also risks losing points on your driving licence. And it is also very unpleasant for the rest road users, as well as for local residents, in particular due to noise. Not to mention the risk, for example, to children playing on the sidewalks. But some are showing ingenuity in combating this phenomenon…
An automatic speed camera on the RD 137 in St Sulpice d’Arnoult has been terrorizing drivers in recent days, flashing as they obey the speed limit!
This radar was undergoing maintenance. Therefore, there will be no verbalization. Thanks to the whistleblowers!– Gendarmerie of Primorsky Charante (@Gendarmerie_017) September 16, 2021
A clever trick
This is exactly the case of this resident who lives in the small town of Juluville, located in the English Channel. Annoyed by the fact that motorists are constantly driving at high speeds, the latter decided to take matters into his own hands and act. And for that, he found a clever solution that can obviously make you smile. Indeed, he simply repurposed an old American refrigerator, which he turns into a fixed radar layout. To do this, he then applied black and yellow stripes, just like the real cabs, before installing his creation on the pavement for all to see. And it seems to have affected motorists who were in too much of a hurry.
Illegal practice
Except here, if the technique is funny and seems innocent, it’s completely illegal. As our colleagues from Western France remind, installing a fake radar is really punishable a fine of 135 euros. But our local resident quickly removed his installation without being caught by the police. All’s well that ends well! Let’s hope the drivers learned this little lesson!
