I am introducing a bill aimed at reducing gasoline taxes in the face of record high fuel prices and taxing oil company dividends.
A few days before the big holidays, this is an important topic for the French. pic.twitter.com/84UlSqaEBM

A whole month has passed since the 10-cent discount per liter of fuel finally ended. The aid, which was introduced many months ago, first took the form of a discount of 18 cents, then 30 cents, before falling very sharply and then disappearing on December 1. A small change, which is obviously difficult to accept for motorists who have been affected by the increase in fuel prices since last year. A surge that also seems to be starting again, while a liter sometimes exceeds the two-euro mark again in some HUNDREDd. And it could continue.
A necessary end
But why then did the government stop this discount, which, nevertheless, was very successful and helped motorists a lot? According to Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy, this decision was not taken lightly. Answering a question from Du Dimanche magazine a few days ago, he explains that ” we made a difficult choice for fuel: we went from a 30-cent discount for all motorists to helping all those who drive to work. He goes on to say that ” it is fairer and more consistent with our support and ecological transition“.
A question of cost
But that’s not all. Because if this discount was refused, it was also because it was too expensive for the state. ” The cost of this event has decreased from 8 billion to 1 billion euros. Therefore, we have moved from what is needed to a more targeted policy. From now on it is possible to request an aid of 100 euros, intended only for the most modest workers who need a car to get to the place of work. But it is not achieving the expected success, according to the government…
The French are punished by supply interruptions at service stations.
Thus, the government continues the discount of 30 centimes/l at gas stations until mid-November.@TotalEnergies also extends its discount of 20 centimes/l for the same period. pic.twitter.com/u7EdYWGliB
