
In its “New Car” strategy, the Volkswagen Group considers electric vehicle charging and energy management as strategic pillars that are at the center of the company’s activities. A strategic development that goes hand in hand with the growing offer of electric vehicles in the German group.
It has been a few years since the Volkswagen Group started to roll out its worldwide network fast charging stations : to this day it is considered more than 15,000 fast charging stations installed in North America, China and Europe.
Volkswagen: global network of fast charging stations
Until 2025The Volkswagen Group plans to establish, in cooperation with its partners, no less than 45,000 fast charging stations available for all electric vehicles. The company has just completed a preliminary report on the deployment of its global network.
By the end of 2022, the company’s network is small approximately 15,000 fast charging stations (HPC), i.e. more than a third of its target to be achieved by 2025, with a the maximum charging power is 350 kW. By the end of 2023, almost 10,000 additional HPC terminals will be commissioned in Europe, i.e. 25,000 worldwide.

The fast-charging stations are being rolled out in Europe, notably with the help of Ionity, a joint venture owned by, among others, several Volkswagen Group brands such as Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche. Last year, the German group also created the Ewiva joint venture with Enel X Way, a member of the Enel Group, to develop electricity charging solutions in Italy.

In the United States, the group’s electric charging offering is overseen by Electrify America, the largest public fast-charging network in North America, while in China it is handled by the CAMS joint venture. It is expected that by 2025 the global Volkswagen network a total of 45,000 terminals : 18,000 in Europe, 10,000 in North America and 17,000 in China.
