Mountain law: sanctions from January 1? News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your mailbox

We have known about the Mountain Law for quite some time. And it was not for nothing that it was introduced in 2021 to reduce the risk of accidents in areas that often suffer from bad weather, especially snow. In general, this measure concerns at least 48 departments located in mountainous areas, including Doux, Isere, Alpes Haute-Provence or even Upper Corsica and the Atlantic Pyrenees. Special commissions then come to inform motorists about this law and the obligation to install winter tires on their car in order to be able to move.

There are no sanctions yet

It is also possible to install anti-skid chains or socks on the wheels of your vehicle, or simply carry them in your trunk to be able to present them in the event of an inspection. However, in 2021 the government announced that no sanctions would yet be imposed to give away the top spot pedagogy. No fine resolution has yet been published this year. And it is true that drivers who did not respect the law were not punished. But that could change.

A new fine?

Indeed, a tweet from Prefecture of Isère, a message has just appeared that non-compliance with the mountain law will result in a fine of 135 euros. So, the sanction was put into effect on January 1. So far nothing has been confirmed and it is very likely that this is a bug of the service responsible for the connection. In any case, law enforcement may ask you to turn around if you don’t have the proper gear to enter snowy terrain. So be very careful to equip yourself properly before doing so go to the mountains this winter!
