Time of Hyundai’s new product for the Kona crossover. Even if the first generation only dates back to 2017, today it has been updated in the second version, clearly visible upgrade. From Santa Fe in 2000 Tucson in 2004, Hyundai made a very early bet on SUVs. However, in the lower segment Kona appeared later. Compact MPVs have been all the rage in the past: the Matrix in 2001, the iX20 in 2010. The first generation represented one of the most complete assortments in the category: gasoline, diesel, hybrid and electric! It is now updated with integration new stylistic codes from Hyundai and equipped with the latest equipment and features from the Korean manufacturer.
Bigger to aim (even) higher
At first glance, Kona is more aggressive and futuristic than the previous generation. He does spotlight on LEDsnow aligned in a band, as on the last one IONIQ news, with a less visually tortured silhouette. Longer (+ 15 cm), wider (+2.5 cm), its wheelbase is also extended by 6 cm, which improves the overall line and especially capacity in the back seat. What’s special about this second Kona moniker is that it was designed primarily to house an electric motor, although thermal and hybrid variants are preserved. This choice should allow for an electrical architecture that will favor larger batteries and, therefore, increased autonomy.
Visible update
We find in the salon soft lines and a zen atmosphere which reigns in the brand’s latest novelties. Clean, light. If information about it is still rather scarce, several photos released show a new digital dashboard that combines driver information and infotainment systems in one unit. Each has a 12.3-inch screenand has physical buttons in addition to touch controls. Good news, Hyundai’s tactile fever has not struck! The range will also consist of vversion N Line, released at the same time, which plays more sportsmanship cards. Will there be a pure N version? The current generation did not offer it in France, while some of our European neighbors had it in their catalog.
We should know its specifications and pricing in the coming months. This cousin of the Kia Niro has been successfully moving upmarket, which should give it the key to further development tickle French manufacturers of a wide profile. Tremble, Mégane E-Tech!
