Sometimes, some owners are unlucky with the low-mileage model they purchased. Here’s what happened to our reader of the day!
2014 Volkswagen Multivan
Discovering all of Europe on board Volkswagen bus When he was a child, Charles, a reader from Sesson-Sévigné (35), decided to do the same with his offspring. Thus, at the end of 2018, he acquired a Multiven 2.0 BiTDI 180 since the end of 2014, which then showed less than 50,000 km. Impeccable compliance with the previous owner’s service plan is one of the criteria that guides Charles in this choice. But over the past few months, our reader noticed that his Multivan was consuming an excessive amount of oil. The latest indicators indicate that 0.6 liters of oil should be added every 1000 km.
The offer is considered insufficient
When this diagnosis was confirmed and €379 was charged, the dealer saw only one solution to this problem: replacing the engine. Charles gets chills from the estimate of this operation. To change the block, you really need to count 10,083 €. As a good professional, the brand representative submits a reference file to the latter. volkswagen then agrees to give a 60% discount to his unhappy customer. But he considers this offer insufficient and, given the mileage of his Multivan, it is reasonable to request a free engine replacement. At the moment, his request in this sense has not received a response from Volkswagen, so he is contacting us.
Our defense strategy
If the scale of our experts indicates that the manufacturer should cover 100% of the engine replacement if it has less than 100,000 km, it also indicates that the normal wear and tear rate applies after 5 years. Since Charles’s Multivan was released over 7 years ago, it’s normal to apply 20% reduction in support size. Thus, Volkswagen must make an offer to its customer for 80%, thus leaving only him 2017 euros pay for this transaction!
