It has been more than a year since the price of fuel rose sharply. The growth we owe to, among other things, the war in Ukraine and European sanctions, which led to a drop in Russian oil exports, but not only. Since penal taxation on gasoline and diesel it’s also for good reason, while taxes make up about 60% of the price of a liter. In addition, oil-producing countries also decided to cut imports, again causing modest growth. So much so that unleaded and diesel fuel sometimes reached insane prices, exceeding €2.40 at some service stations. Although prices have since fallen somewhat and incomes have reached more acceptable levels, they are still very high.
The French are punished by supply interruptions at service stations.
Thus, the government continues the discount of 30 centimes/l at gas stations until mid-November.@TotalEnergies also extends its discount of 20 centimes/l for the same period. pic.twitter.com/u7EdYWGliB

Almost at the end
To calm the discontent of motorists and relieve tension, the government then decided to set a discount of 18 cents, then increased it to 30 cents. This was launched on 1 September and extended until 16 November due to strikes and fuel shortages. From now on, it is necessary to deal with a reduced aid of only 10 centimes per liter. Identical amount of TotalEnergies assistance, also cumulative. But be careful, because these two power-ups will run out soon! From January 1 next year, there will no longer be general assistance for all motorists. Then the latter will have to pay the full price again.
.
Direct assistance
However, the government recently confirmed that a new increase will be introduced, this time only for the most modest motorists who need a car to get to work. This will be of the form a a check for 100 euros, which will be paid immediately in the file. You will then need to go to the tax website and display a reference tax income of less than €14,000. Applications can be submitted from January 16 throughout France.
