With more than 250,000 units sold worldwide, the BMW i3 enjoyed some commercial success throughout its career. And for good reason, this is the first electric car of the brand, and also one of the first representatives of this segment when it was launched in 2013. After years of marketing, the Bavarian firm finally announced the end of its production last July. A few weeks later, the last 18 examples of the city car were delivered, all with a gold body. During its nine-year career, the i3 underwent many improvements, including the introduction of a Battery 42 kWh in 2018, which allowed him to reach 210 kilometers. Today, however, it poses a few minor problems despite its relative age.

Risk of fire

Indeed, the German manufacturer has just noticed that this battery will have a serious manufacturing defect, and no less important. Indeed, then it would simply begin to overheat, to the point of risking a fire. Fortunately, this has not yet happened to customers of the brand, but BMW still prefers to take precautions. That is why the firm is starting a large-scale recall operation that will affect all examples of the electric city car collected between October 26, 2018 and August 31, 2021. Specifically, it corresponds more than 6000 cars only in France, but it is possible that other countries will be affected.

Several interventions

Generally, all interested owners should receive a letter from BMW informing them that they will have to return to the workshop for repairs. If in doubt, you can contact your dealer or check the vehicle registration document. Corresponding instances are recognized by their tCE type e1*2007/46*1213 visible in field K. At the moment, the brand has not specified the type of operation required for the repair, but it can range from a simple reprogramming to a complete battery replacement. Of course, the manufacturer will take care of all this.
