An automatic speed camera on the RD 137 in St Sulpice d’Arnoult has been terrorizing drivers in recent days, flashing as they obey the speed limit!
This radar was undergoing maintenance. Therefore, there will be no verbalization. Thanks to the whistleblowers!– Gendarmerie of Primorsky Charante (@Gendarmerie_017) September 16, 2021
For many years now, the mayor of Paris has been waging a fierce battle against the car accused of all evil. To do this, Ann Hidalgo multiplies measures such as closing lanes on the banks, creating a ZFE thanks to the Crit’Air sticker or converting many arteries, including Rivoli street, into a pedestrian zone. But that’s not all. Since from August 30, 2021, almost all of Paris interior is also limited to 30 km/h. The measure was taken in consultation with police headquarters to reduce pollution as well as the risk of accidents in the capital. Only a few lanes remain limited to 50 km/h, for example Elysian fields and Velyka Armiya avenuesas well as the main arteries of the Vincennes and Boulogne forests.

The decision has been made
But, as could be expected, when it came into effect, this measure will not be to everyone’s taste. So much so that several associations for the protection of motorists, as well as individuals, decided to take action and take the case to court. The goal? Ban this limit and return to weekend 50 km/h. But now the decision has finally been made. And this is not very good news for drivers, because Administrative court finally agreed with the mayor of Paris. According to him, the police leadership “didn’t make a mistake in their assessment” by deciding to lower the limit in the capital. He adds ” that, contrary to what the applicants claim, it has not been established that reducing the maximum speed to 30 km/h within the Paris agglomeration would lead to an increase in air pollution or that such a speed limit would necessarily be less favorable in terms of emissions than a speed limit of 50 km/h“.
Barely noticeable effect
For his part, David Belliard, deputy mayor responsible for mobility and roads, welcomes the decision, which he describes as “excellent news“. He also takes the opportunity to call on the government to help the municipality introduce ways to better monitor compliance with this restriction, by ” installation, as we have repeatedly requested, of speed cameras in the capital“. At the moment, the impact of this measure remains rather restrained, although a decrease in average speed of 1.8 km/h was recorded over the year. We remind you that this one has already been launched approximately 15 km/h until implementation of 30 km/h.
