With the advent of electric vehicles, autonomy is now a major, if not the most important, criterion to consider when making a purchase. Because if it’s easy to find a service station to fill up your tank with petrol or diesel, it’s a little harder to get a quick terminal to charge your cars. It must be admitted that the network is developing more and more, but this is still far from enough. In addition, the still too low autonomy of many connected cars today remains a real obstacle for many motorists, who are therefore not yet ready to choose this type of motorization. Moreover, in most cases, the numbers announced in WLTP quite far from reality, and not always in a good way.

A real disappointment

Indeed, autonomy depends on many parameters, such as speed or temperature. If it is too small, the value drops significantly. But it is not about a huge difference with the numbers in “normal” conditions. However, the Danish journalists of the FDM website were a little disappointed when testing the new Toyota bZ4x. If the autonomy is officially declared by the brand at the level of 513 kilometers, they will not be able to drive more than 246 kilometers. Worse, the version with four-wheel drive ran only 215 kilometers against the 461 promised by the manufacturer. So, a huge difference. Admittedly, the temperature was low as it only read 4 degrees, but that is not enough to explain this value.

The real problem?

Very fast, Toyota has been notified of this problem, especially since it also applies to other media as well as customers. A new disappointment for the brand, which a few months ago was already forced to stop selling an electric SUV because its wheels flew off. Rest assured, this issue has thankfully been resolved. The brand is taking the issue very seriously and says it is currently investigating to find out what could be the cause of the crash. To be continued…
