SUV coupe design and sophisticated aerodynamics

Visually, the serial version can hardly be distinguished from the concept Aiways U6 Ion concept. We will remind you that we already talked about this in March 2020 in This article. With this U6, according to the manufacturer, the absolute priority was optimization aerodynamics. The front has large C-shaped cutouts, the upper half of which houses the LED headlights and daytime running lights. In the lower part there are air intakes made of black mesh. The bumper has another radiator hole in the center, also black.

On the sides, black plastic elements and ribs direct the air flow along the car. All around, the plastic covering extends to the wheel arches and side sills to the rear bumper. At the back, slightly larger fins rise directly behind the wheels. In the upper part, the tinted panoramic roof merges into the rear window. The only noticeable difference from the U6 Ion concept is that the Chinese manufacturer has replaced the prominent spoiler with a more discreet one.

Interior with a rather premium design!

Inside, the Aiways U6 has a more conventional closed-ring multifunction steering wheel, which also differs from the concept. Screen with 14.6 inches integrated into the dashboard, acts as a central computer. This controls the main functions, vents, ambient lighting, audio and other important functions of the car such as You are here which centralizes everything on one slab. So Aiways seems to have done away with buttons and switches.

Gear shifting is done using an elegant rotary knob on the center console. Built-in LEDs seem to indicate the chosen direction. The set is enough “smart” and the overall presentation is quite successful, with well-chosen colors and materials! Like it or not, we have to say this U6 has a real personality…

And in terms of performance and autonomy, what does it give?

As for the battery, the Aiways U6 uses a battery from 63 kWh de its brand brother U5, which gives it autonomy WLTP about 400 kilometers. We will remind, ID.5 offers a little more than 500 km according to the WLTP cycle. Aiways didn’t provide any other specs, but it’s likely that the U5 is also inspired, which is powered by a 150 kW, or roughly 204 hp, electric motor at the front axle.
