Like all manufacturers, Alfa Romeo will significantly electrify its range over the next few years. The goal? Offer only 100% electric models by 2027, several years ahead of the deadline set by the European Union. The program will then include several zero-emission models, including a new version of the Tonale, as well a large SUV model range. But at the moment, the manufacturer has not officially announced anything on this topic, so it remains quite mysterious. Meanwhile, the firm offers a Tonal plug-in hybrid, which should allow attracting new customers as well as reducing average CO2 emissions to meet the will of the European Union. But you should not immediately electrify the entire assortment, on the contrary.
Alfa Romeo must be beautiful.
But then, when it’s not rusty, it’s just awesome. Powerplant, manual transmission, it’s old-fashioned driving, just the way we like it.

Not on all models
Indeed, if the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio have recently been restyled, this engine should not benefit. Indeed, the sedan and SUV have to be satisfied with only conventional heat engines for now, which, however, should not cause dissatisfaction among customers. But then what explains this strategy. According to Daniele Guzzafame, the Italian brand’s product manager, questioned by Car Experts, developing a hybrid engine for the two cars would be too expensive. In addition, it would be unprofitable to develop versions on 48 volt light hybridization until the end of the career of the two flagship models in the range.
Electric models
Instead, the manufacturer prefers to invest heavily in other new models and replacements for these two vehicles, which will thus be 100% electric. Patience will still be required, as they shouldn’t see the light of day until 2025, when they should be based on the all-new STLA platform Stellantis group. It will also be shared with models from the former PSA group, such as Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Opel. However, we will have to wait a bit before we know everything about the future production plan of the Italian brand.
