Group Rheinmetall, located in Düsseldorf, Germany, presented a new charging concept electric cars. The company introduced charging stations built right into the pavement! Thus, almost invisible, they can be installed without distorting the urban environment.
Horizontal charging stations?
These are must-have charging stations for electric vehicles installed horizontally in the border. The manufacturer first introduced this charging solution concept during VDE E-Mobility Conference 2022German Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technology.
Thanks to the ingenious design, the charging stations can be integrated almost imperceptibly into the road landscape and take up less space than conventional charging stations. With these terminals, limited space (if limited, for example in the city center) is no longer a problem.
According to Rheinmetall, the system was developed “ based on the principle that interference in public space should be minimized as much as possible“, the group explains. Rheinmetall is actually a German industrial conglomerate with two specialties: armaments and automotive equipment.

Simplify the development of charging infrastructure
The Rheinmetall modular charging station can operate with a charging capacity of up to 22 kW alternating current. During development, the group also took into account the possibility of modernization and necessary maintenance.
In addition, chargers are designed to be installed on entire streets or even parking lots. First use is also possible fictitious borders during construction work. They can then be replaced with electronic modules as future needs increase.
The module must also be able to be quickly removed and replaced for maintenance work. At the moment, there is no official launch date yet. Before launching the pilot project in the public space, the charging station is still subjected to numerous tests over a long period.
