Fuel is expensive, that’s a fact. And it’s even worse since the beginning of the year, when prices literally exploded, in particular due to war in Ukraine. The fall in Russian exports led to a sharp rise in prices at gas stations, which, of course, hurt motorists. Then a liter sometimes exceeded the €2.50 mark at some stations, and this is unfortunately set to happen again at the end of the year when the government ended the 30 centimes discount yesterday. An ending that clearly didn’t sit well with motorists, and which immediately caused prices to rise again. But the government does not want to lose too much money.

big profits

But we assure you right away, the latter is still far from necessary. Indeed, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, fuel taxes will bring the state very large profits in 2022. In fact, experts estimate the amount of 41.5 billion euros in revenues related to the taxation of gasoline and diesel fuel by the end of the year. year. A very important number, but smaller than last year, precisely because of the discount. In general, it will cost 7.6 billion euros to the state. What may seem like a drop in the bucket compared to profits, especially since fuel is not the only source of government enrichment, speed cameras are also important.

.

Higher VAT

As you can imagine, price increases have also had a positive effect on the government. In fact, the higher the quantity per liter, the more VAT, which is a percentage of the latter, is important. On the other hand, the TICPE (internal tax on energy consumption) does not change because it only depends on the number of liters you put in your tank, not the amount you use. But that increase won’t be able to offset the cost of discounts of 18, 30 and then 10 cents until the end of the year.
