today, cars are more expensive than ever. Indeed, new vehicle prices have risen significantly over the years, and especially since 2020. We are talking about the shortage of semiconductors, as well as the rise in prices for raw materials. Therefore, manufacturers should revise their price lists in order not to lose extra money. And, as always, the customers toast. Some brands, in particular, choose to eliminate entry-level finishes that are not widely purchased and not necessarily very profitable. This is exactly what Volkswagen decided to do with its Golf, discontinuing the Life version, which had previously opened the model range.

Rising price

Now you will need to choose your own Life Business finish, displayed from 31,000 euros and equipped with a 1.0 TSI gasoline unit with a capacity of 110 horsepower and a six-speed manual transmission. But this change in the catalog is not insignificant. Indeed, in this way the German compact car becomes more expensive than the Audi A3, which then starts at 29,790 euros, but nevertheless occupies a more premium position. At least in terms of image. Because when you look at the details, the Golf is slightly better equipped in its new entry-level trim, with automatic air conditioning, cruise control and even a rear-view camera, among other things. Elements that are not in the compact with rings.

.

Some changes

But that’s not all. Really, volkswagen golf is also changing its range in another way, as the 130bhp version of the 1.5 TSI linked to a manual gearbox disappears. A version equipped with a DSG transmission remains. For its part, the 2.0 TDI version with 150 horsepower loses all-wheel drive. On the other hand, the SW variant is retained, as are all the other engines in the range, including the sportiest one. Prices have risen from €1,000 to €3,000 depending on the version.
