The Ford Fiesta is the compact segment symbol. Sold on the market for 46 years, it crossed decades for seven generations! The 3- or 5-door city car took on various forms, including a sedan or even a van.
The brand’s little Fiesta with the blue oval is consistently one of the stars of its category, alongside Renault Clio, Seat Ibiza or volkswagen polo just name them. But according to our colleagues fromAutomotive newsFord plans to stop selling its flagship city car already… next summer!
Why is Ford getting rid of the Fiesta?
By the end of next June, the manufacturer’s plant in Cologne, Germany, will no longer produce the Fiesta.
We will remind, the seventh generation appeared in 2017 and suffered restyling earlier this year. This recall of such a popular vehicle comes as the automaker is making changes to its catalog to make room for more electric vehicles. Production of minivans until April next year S-MAX and galaxy will also end, for example, at the Ford plant in Valencia, Spain.
If you look at the calendar of the manufacturer, then the wishes of the latter to produce exclusively electric cars by 2030. Given the current context, which prompts brands to significantly accelerate the transition to electric models, as well as a more SUV-loving public, it makes sense that the little Fiesta is under clear threat.
Finally, about cars that are offered at relatively affordable prices, such as the Fiesta, manufacturers struggle to create an attractive margin. We are talking about the recent increase in the cost of raw materials, in particular, or increasingly strict environmental standards. With this, it becomes too expensive for manufacturers to develop new internal combustion engines that still have the same low pollution levels.
We are waiting for your best souvenir photos of your Fiesta(s) to pay them the most beautiful tribute!

Instead, an electric SUV on the Volkswagen platform?
The final stop of the Fiesta will undoubtedly leave a big void in the manufacturer’s range.
And instead again on journalists from Automotive News, the new electric crossover will be produced at the Cologne plant in North Rhine. And it will most likely be based on Volkswagen’s modular MEB platform.
Finally, three new electric car models and four SUVs will be launched in Europe by 2024, Ford said.
