Canisters are prohibited in some departments

Faced with difficulties in supplying stations, several departments decidedprohibit filling of canisters at the station. It is currently banned in Pas-de-Calais, Nord, Seine-Maritime, Oise, Val d’Oise, Vosges, Vaucluse and Rhône. On the other hand, in cases where it is legal to fill the canister with gasoline, it remains highly regulated. For an individual, this is, first of all, a matter of delivering a car in case of breakdown or, for example, a lawn mower. In an emergency, you can fill a 5 liter canisterbut be careful, it should be it is allowed to transport fuel. Obviously, we are not talking about, for example, filling empty water bottles.

You must also follow the safety rules, which of course are obvious, but important. Close the approved can securely, place it securely in the trunk in an upright position. Obviously, it is highly recommended not to smoke in the car…

Scarcity: Beware of canisters…

So, in summary. There is no law that directly prohibits filling a canister at a service station. But some prefects have decided to ban it in their departments, so the penalties will be local and probably no more severe than a second-class fine and confiscation of the canister. On the other hand, nothing stands in the way of a private security guard from a service station do not fill the canister.
