The city reduces the maximum speed to 20 km/h! News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your mailbox

Today, there seems to be a downward trend in speed limits. Indeed, cities across France are deciding to ease restrictions. We’re obviously thinking about 80 km/h, which never really got through to motorists and didn’t necessarily have the desired effect. Several large cities have also decided to lower the speed, such as in Paris, where most streets are now limited to 30 km/h. Only a few axes are always displayed 50 km/h, like the Champs-Élysées or the roads in the forests of Boulogne and Vincennes. Other cities are also following suit, but are still limited to 30 km/h. The speed is already very low, and it is not always easy to maintain it.

Only 20 km/h

But one municipality decided to go even further. Indeed, in Rodez, in Aveyron, a municipal decree has just been published establishing new road rules for motorists. And the least we can say is that they are quite strict. Indeed, nowspeed is limited to 30 km/h almost all over the city. Convincing, but not necessarily surprising. On the other hand, what is much more, is that the mayor decided to lower the limit to only 20 km/h in hypercenter. The goal? Reduce traffic, as explained in the municipality. In this way, he also hopes to reduce the number of road accidents, especially with pedestrians and cyclists.

But that’s not all. Indeed, Rodez also wants to create a cycling plan. If the exact terms of this have not yet been announced, this will no doubt include the installation of new bike lanes. But speed reductions for cars can also be considered. Currently, the decree states that ” these provisions will be enforced as soon as the regulatory sign is installed and violations will be noted and prosecuted in accordance with applicable regulations“.
