
In the mid-1980s, following the launch of the Ferrari 288 GTO, the Prancing Horse brand worked on 288 GTO Evolutiona competition car designed to compete in Group B. For the model to meet the requirements, the manufacturer had to produce at least 200 examples of it homologated for road traffic.
Production began in 1986, but unfortunately the FIA decided to abandon Group B after a series of fatal crashes tarnished the competition’s image. Ferrari abandons the project, and only 5 examples of the 288 GTO Evoluzione were producedmaking it one of the brand’s rarest production models.
Ferrari 288 GTO Evoluzione: a rare model
The Ferrari 288 GTO Evoluzione is also a particularly important model for the Italian firm, as it is the ancestor of the legendary F40. Him V8 engine developed the power of 650 horsepower, all for a weight of 940 kg thanks to a body made of carbon fiber and Kevlar. Which accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 4 seconds and has a top speed of 369.8 km/h.
The copy, soon to be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s, was made in 1987 under the name chassis number 79888 : this is the fourth example of the 288 GTO Evoluzione out of five produced. It was purchased by Belgian driver Jean Blaton from the famous Belgian garage Francorchamps.

Ferrari 288 GTO Evoluzione: exceptional condition
The model was then sold to several wealthy collectors in Belgium, Great Britain, Canada and the United States. This exceptional Ferrari 288 GTO Evoluzione will put up for auction from RM Sotheby’s from October 19 to 21, 2022. Its approximate value is not disclosed, but it should easily exceed the bar of 5 million euros.
