This is the future flagship of the Swedish brand. The Volvo EX90 will be unveiled on November 9 and will replace the XC90, the current Premium SUV. In anticipation of this official presentation, Volvo has revealed some of the items that the next EX90 will be equipped with.
Volvo EX90, the safest SUV
The Swedish brand is very ambitious about its future SUV and speaks about it “The safest model”. To confirm its words, the Swedish brand has published an initial list of equipment that will be installed on the next model. The big novelty will be present in the front bumper of the car, which will be equipped with a completely new safety system.
This is lidar technology developed by Luminar. This technology will allow you to scan the road for several hundred meters, thanks to the presence of a pulsed laser. This laser works both day and night and is very accurate. This is explained by the CEO of the Swedish manufacturer, Jim Rowan “The difference lidar can make to real-life safety is tremendous. Our recent research shows that adding lidar to a car can reduce the number of high-impact crashes by up to 20% and improve overall crash avoidability by up to 9%.”.
The system will be present on the roof line and front grille of the SUV. In total, this monitoring system will be provided by five radars and 16 ultrasonic sensors.
One electric motorization is available
The Volvo EX90 will be a 100% electric SUV. Thus, there will not be any thermal or hybrid battery version on sale. In this way, the Swedish brand will mark a new stage in the electrification of its models. Volvo already introduced the C40 a few months ago, a 100% electric SUV that took the codes of the XC40. Thus, the Volvo EX90 should become a significant technological advance in the field of electric motorization. According to the manufacturer’s instructions, “EX90 marks the beginning of a new era” at Volvo.
The Swedish brand aims to fully electrify its models by 2030. And Volvo wants to appear as soon as possible “a very reliable manufacturer of electrified cars of the new generation”. The beginning of the answer is November 9.
