Mitsubishi ASX (2022): Japanese Captur Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

This is a line well known to us in France. The new Mitsubishi ASX has a Design similar to Renault Captur. Therefore, should we talk about copying? Not at all. Rather, it is intelligent cooperation Alliance Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi. Based on the Renault Captur, the Japanese brand is entering a completely new market for compact SUVs. A way for the manufacturer to resume commercial activity in Europe. And if the design is similar to the Renault, Mitsubishi intends to bring its little touches to its small SUV.

Famous exterior and interior design

It is now necessary to check the logo attached to the grille to distinguish the Renault Captur from the Mitsubishi ASX. The new Japanese SUV is being restored almost the same codes as its Renault cousin. Thus we find the same CMF-B platform developed by Renault-Nissan. Thus, the dimensions remain unchanged, i.e. 4.23 m in length, 1.80 m in width, 1.57 m in height and 2.64 m in wheelbase.

Among the various elements is the grid. The latter, treated with chrome, occupies stylistic codes of the Japanese brand. On the flip side, on the contrary, there are very few differences. Mitsubishi completely wrote the name of the brand across the width of the tailgate. We also find the same 17″ or 18″ rims with which the Captur is already equipped.

Nothing changes inside. We find the same treatments that will be called Inform, Invite, Intense and Instyle on Mitsubishi. That’s fewer options than the Captur. As for internal equipment, we can always find it three levels of equipment. With a choice behind the wheel: a 4-inch analog speedometer, a 7-inch digital screen or a customizable 10-inch dashboard. The central screen is also the same, in 7-inch horizontal or 9-inch vertical versions.

A fairly well equipped model

Customers will have a choice when it comes to available equipment. The entry level will also be well equipped with the following accessories:

  • reversing radar
  • rear view camera
  • line crossing alert
  • wireless connection of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • LED spotlights
  • sliding rear seat

Mitsubishi also indicates availability Multi-Sense system which will allow the driver to choose the driving mode that best suits his preferences. The car will also feature the Mi-Pilot system, which includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assist (LCA).

Mitsubishi ASX, available engines

As for the available engines, here too, Mitsubishi takes on already existing units. Thus, we find for the initial level a 1.0-liter turbo gasoline engine with a capacity of 90 hp equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. Two engines with microhybridization, equipped with a 1.3-liter gasoline unit with a capacity of 140 hp. and 160 hp. (for the first – a 6-speed manual gearbox, for the second – a DCT7 automatic). A 145 hp hybrid-petrol version will be available, which will be equipped with a BVM clutch box. Mitsubishi finally offers a hybrid-battery version with a capacity of 160 hp. The latter will be equipped with a completely new one Battery 10.5 kWh, with which the next generation Captur will be equipped next year. The claimed autonomy of the all-electric version of the PHEV is 49 kilometers.

What are the prices?

We do not yet know the price of the new Mitsubishi ASX. But the manufacturer explains that the prices will correspond to the prices of the Renault Captur. Captur is currently available in 24,750 euros, and the PHEV version with a capacity of 160 hp. — up to 34,000 euros.. Therefore, tariffs should be based on this. Even if the Captur expands with a few new features next year.

This ASX Mitsubishi marks its return to Europe. The model will be produced at the Spanish factories in Valladolid. The brand intends to sell 30,000 copies per year throughout the European market. The first deliveries will take place in March 2023.
