Jeep is betting big on the electrification of its range, introducing many electric and hybrid models this year. One of the brand’s iconic 4×4 SUVs is not forgotten, the Jeep Wrangler offers a completely new version presented at the Detroit Auto Show: Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe.

This new Wrangler Willys 4xe pays tribute to its past while making a connection with the future: its name is taken from the famous 1940s Williea model used by the US Army during World War II and which is the ancestor of modern Jeeps.

Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe: a unique look

Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe differs in that “Willys” stickers. on the hood, the front grill is painted in glossy black, shields and wheel arches are made of black plastic, as well as various dashes of blue which allow you to emphasize the presence of the 4xe battery hybrid engine: they can be found on the tow hooks, Willys decals, logos on the front wings, not to mention the logos on the trunk.

There is also a “4 wheel drive” sticker on the back, although they are Black wheels 17 inchesshod in Firestone LT 255/75 R17 C all-terrain tires. In the cabin, the model received black leather upholstery, rubber mats, an audio system with 9 speakers from Alpine, as well as the UConnect 4C Nav infotainment system with an 8.4-inch touch screen located on center of the dashboard.

Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe: hybrid and SUV

Under the hood, the Jeep Wrangler Willys is only offered with the 4xe hybrid powertrain, which combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor in the rear, along with a 17kWh NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt). The total power is 380 horsepower, a total of 637 Nm of torque.

The model retains the spirit of the franchisor with permanent four-wheel drive, close gear ratios and locking differentials front and rear. The instant torque provided by the electric motor also improves the model’s ability to pass, especially on the roughest roads.

Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe: release at the end of 2022

To get out of any situation, you can count on its large ground clearance of 33 cm, which allows you to overcome fords up to 76 cm deep. Hill-Ascent and Hill-Descent functions also facilitate the most difficult ascents and descents, and three driving modes (Hybrid , Electric and eSave) allow you to configure the operation of the hybrid power plant.

The Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe is currently on display at the Detroit Auto Show, which will be open to the public from September 17 to 25, 2022. It will go on sale in the United States for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2022, starting at $53,995. (equivalent to around €54,100), and even if Jeep has yet to announce a launch on the Old Continent, this plug-in hybrid model should surely hit the European market in the near future.
