Ford unveiled the seventh generation of its iconic Mustang this evening at the Detroit Auto Show. A new generation that should contribute to the perpetuation of the myth. If on the outside the changes are quite insignificant, then on the inside Ford has completely redesigned its copy. We tell you all about this seventh generation pony car queen.

Watch the new American athlete in the video:

A slightly redesigned design

Externally, this new Mustang has evolved relatively little compared to the previous generation. Ford talks about design “more modern”. The manufacturer slightly reworked the front part, making it a little wider and more muscular. There are also new LED Tri-Bar headlights and two impressive air intakes located on each side of the bumper. In the GT version, Ford added a large air intake on the hood.

The roofline has also been modified to provide better airflow and optimize driver comfort.
At the rear, Ford widened the hips of its Mustang. There are also new headlights for a new light signature and the presence of an all-new rear diffuser. The manufacturer has also installed new rims ranging in size from 17 to 20 inches depending on the configuration.

Ford offers three body lines: EcoBoost, GT and convertible versions. A total of 11 different colors will be available. And Ford is also launching a series Bronze designas well as its maintenance Mustang designwhich, in particular, offers several customization items.

More modern interior

This 2022 Mustang gets the most development inside. There is a particularly modern atmosphere here, which is similar to the past generation. Furthermore, Ford insists that it “the most technological Mustang cabin”. The manufacturer installed a double digital screen of 12.4 inches, fully customizable. Thus, it is possible to display a lot of information with several graphic visualizations available. The brand also emphasized touch controls more than buttons. This is especially true of the air conditioning and radio controls.

The design of the steering wheel has also been revised on all versions. This design is inspired by racing design, especially for the GT version. Upholstery has been improved and Ford offers a wide selection of trims with several stitching colors to choose from. The seat fabric has also been revised and several colors will be available to decorate the interior of this new Mustang.

Finally, Ford installed a B&O audio system optimized for the car. Enough to make this new Ford Mustang a true compendium of technology.

Ford Mustang 2022, V8 Coyote still in the game

This was the part Mustang fans were most worried about. What engine will this new Mustang be available with? For a long time there were rumors about a hybrid engine. But it’s nothing. Ford introduced two 100% thermal engines. For the first time, the brand offers a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine with a capacity of 300 hp. According to the brand, this engine is designed for customers who want to enjoy driving a Mustang with a reasonable level of consumption. These were not specified.
First and foremost, Ford is keeping the legendary 500-hp Coyote 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 in its catalog.

These two engines will be associated with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic transmission. A total of 6 driving modes (Normal, Sport, Slippery, Drag, Track, Custom) will be available to ensure efficient driving in all conditions. Ford talks about the Mustang “The most sporty and inspiring to drive”.

GT Performance package and version Black horse, “Dark horse for more pleasure

For lovers of sporty style, the brand also offers two very muscular finishes. First of all, the GT Performance trim, which offers some additional elements such as brake ducts for better cooling or the presence of Recaro Performance seats. This will complement the already very sporty range of equipment found on standard models, such as the Torsen limited-slip differential, optional MagneRide active suspension, sports tires and Brembo brakes.

In addition, the catalog will offer a racing version of the Mustang called the Dark Horse. The latter is equipped with a Coyote V8 engine with a capacity of 500 hp, and also has an aero package specially developed for the model. The model is equipped with a 6-speed Tremec manual transmission and 19-inch Brembo brakes. This version of Dark Horse represents the brand’s upcoming racing models, including the Dark Horse R, the upcoming track racing car from the American manufacturer par excellence.

Available in Europe?

That’s the big question, will this new Mustang be available in the European market? So far, the brand has not communicated on this issue. But it is almost certain that the V8 version will never cross the Atlantic due to very high fines. It remains to be seen if Ford intends to sell the EcoBoost version on the Old Continent.

The brand may also offer a battery hybrid engine in the coming months. This is just speculation, but there is no doubt that this new Mustang is primarily intended for the American market. Therefore, enthusiasts and model lovers will have to wait.

Especially since Ford has not yet announced the price of its new Mustang.
