Two videos of the same type of incident were recently posted on Reddit, an American community discussion site. In both cases we find careless drivers who open their side doors without looking at oncoming traffic.

Folding doors

In the first video, which is only four seconds long, the surveillance camera shows what appears to be a Chrysler 300 parked facing the same direction as the road. The driver and passenger open the door at the same time. but the driver did not appear to check his rearview mirror for a vehicle. After that, the car crashes into the door, which opens. The latter then finds fully assembled on the front wing of the car, which was still shaking from the heavy impact.

Projected biker

In our second video, which appears to have been recorded in Brazil, the consequences of the inattention of a parked driver are more serious. Without looking in the rear-view mirror before opening the door, the driver of this parked car does not notice the motorcycle approaching the queue and whose then the user is projected onto the center of the road. Unfortunately, a truck was just approaching. It seems that this biker is still lucky, because he gets between the wheels of the truck and quickly manages to get out.

The driver is at fault

In France, article R417-7 of the Road Traffic Regulations is absolutely clear about door accidents : “It is forbidden for any passenger of a stationary or parked car to open the door if this maneuver poses a danger to himself or other users.” In the case of this video, which appears to be set in Canada, that is also the case.
