With the MG 4, the Chinese MG directly attacks references such as the Renault Mégane E-Tech or the Volkswagen ID.3 and its cousin the Cupra Born. All this for much more convenient rates with equivalent equipment. But now MG will no longer settle for a “cheap” offer. Indeed, the manufacturer has just introduced a very muscular version of what it calls the MG Mulan in China: edition of Triumph. And with 450 hp. there will be chaos!
Real sports results
The Triumph Edition is nothing but a version with two electric motors of the MG 4. As a result, the power of the compact sedan increases from 200 to 450 hp, and the torque reaches 600 Nm. Enough to give a hell of a slap in the face to its wise European competitors who have already shown good results. We will remind, the most economical Renault Mégane E-Tech has 220 hpagainst 230 hp in Cupra Born VZ and 204 hp. in Volkswagen ID.4.
On the other hand, the MG 4 Triumph Edition retains the battery of the older version of the “base” MG 4, ie. 64 kW/h. And if the latter according to the WLTP standard was enough for about 450 km, then twice as powerful should logically lose stamina. But, according to our estimates, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h could be cut in half, from 7.9 seconds to about 4 seconds. On the level very good sport ago !
No distinguishing mark… But lower prices?
On the outside, nothing really distinguishes this Triumph Edition from the classic MG 4s, except new specific discs and a new shade of green. Inside, we don’t notice much new either. Fans abundant distinguishing marks so AMG or BMW M will have to go back…
In return, the MG Triumph Edition promises incredible performance relatively affordable account. In any case, one can imagine: MG has not yet confirmed the possible arrival of this Triumph Edition in Europe. Then patience! And from the side of competition, we cannot answer him. We’ll probably have to wait for the upcoming Alpine 5, an angry version of the Renault 5 or the Volkswagen ID.3 GTX.
