Ford: mass recall due to defective gearbox News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your inbox

Recall campaigns seem to be on the rise in recent weeks. And no manufacturer has avoided this trend, as even Ferrari was forced to contact many customers due to the brake fluid cap problem. It may even be the largest recall in the history of the Prancing Horse brand. But this is far from the only victim. Indeed, a few days ago it was Hyundai’s turn to recall its Ioniq 5, a few weeks after Kia’s, due to a parking brake issue. And this time, another brand is forced to contact its customers regarding a mechanical problem related to the gearbox. We are talking about Ford, which in the US alone must recall at least 5 million cars.

Problem with the box

The recall is very extensive, as it concerns no less than five cars produced between 2011 and 2021. This time the problem is related to automatic transmission. Then the malfunction of the transmission element prevents the proper circulation of information. Thus, the box will not know that the driver has changed the position of the lever. You can imagine what can become very problematic later. Indeed, the driver can, for example, engage the Parking position to park the car, while the gearbox remains in neutral. Therefore, the car will not necessarily be well immobilized, which can create safety problems that can be very serious in some cases.

Several models are affected

In total, this recall affects five models. This is a Ford Escape (known in Europe as the Kuga), C-Max, Fusion (Mondeo in Europe), Edge and Transit Connect. Currently only the United States is concerned, but possibly the European and French models as well. So expect to hear from Ford in the next few weeks, nothing definite yet though.
