After the debacle involving Alpine and young talent Oscar Piastre, Daniel Ricciardo’s future at McLaren seemed compromised. Today, the national team of Australia and Great Britain confirmed the departure of the pilot with an eternal smile.

(Very) disappointing at McLaren

It must be said that Daniel Riccardo has largely disappointed in two years at McLaren. Moved a long way from Renault, ahead brilliant reputation, Ricciardo was to be the cornerstone of McLaren’s return to the forefront. But from his first runs, the pilot found himself in trouble faced with a single-seat car whose behavior is very different from its usual one. Then they turned it over dominated by his young teammate Lando Norrishe quickly found it difficult to justify his salary.

However, in 2021 he signs a contract with Montserrat unexpected victory, is experienced as a recovery for McLaren. Then we think about the return of the cute Aussie. But it’s nothing. Worse, it seems even more distant in 2022 with a completely different single-seater.

Back to Alpine, good news?

Therefore, when Alpine is slowly signing Oscar Piastre, and that this one is seeking to be released from his French contract, McLaren has no hesitation. The team can rely on the very solid Norris to develop their rookie F2 champion in 2021 and F3 in 2020. His contract is not yet official, but there is open secret.

What’s next in Daniel Ricciardo’s career? Dizhka logically extends her hands to him in Alpine. True, he will probably have to accept a lower salary, but McLaren’s breach of contract compensation should allow him earn on the stock exchange. And if his departure from the French team at the end of 2020 does not go well, his return to Enstone could be good news. In a single seater that we hope is more suited to his driving, and with an image to restore, Daniel Ricciardo has nothing left to lose. It is up to him to restore his image.
