There are only a few days left to take advantage of free parking for your scooter or motorcycle in Paris. As of September 1, the city of Paris verbalize motorized two-wheeled vehicles who did not pay for parking. A small revolution in the capital, because the number of scooters is increasing every year. The City Hall warns that there will be no tolerance period.
The infrastructure is already ready
To ensure this verbalization from the first hour, the city of Paris has accelerated implementation of payment infrastructure. Perhaps some have already seen the new markings of the paid parking lot. In general, it is more than 42,000 places that must be marked with this sign. The City of Paris has also upgraded all parking meters to offer parking prices adapted to two-wheelers. As a reminder, in districts from the 1st to the 11th, the price will be three euros per hour. A rate that reaches two euros per hour for the rest of the capital. Payment apps such as ParkNow or Flowbird have also been updated to be able to offer the correct fares.
Finally, the town hall makes it known preferential tariffs have been agreed with managers of underground parking lots for residents or workers. Here is the link to be able to register online: Mairie de Paris underground subscription. The rates should be between 770 and 990 euros per year depending on the area.
Finally, we remind you that paid parking in the capital will not affect electric scooters and motorcycles. However, you will need to obtain a parking ticket from a parking meter and declare your e-scooter at Paris City Hall.
Mass verbalization next Tuesday for two-wheelers
Paris city authorities warn that there will be no grace period for paid parking for two-wheeled vehicles. Therefore, the verbalization will take place on Tuesday morning. At the moment, only municipal employees of the City Hall will be able to verbalize the relevant vehicles. Paws (those with roof cameras) cannot read license plates of parked scooters and motorcycles. If the risk of getting a fine will initially be lower than for cars, the city hall says it has started recruiting a few additional agents to enforce the verbalization of two-wheelers.
As a reminder, for the central districts (1-11th) the fine will be €37.5, for the rest of the capital (12-20th) – €25.
Users do not understand the decision of the Paris City Hall
It is always difficult to reach the paid parking lot for two-wheelers in Paris for owners of scooters or motorcycles. Some assure that they will not pay the fines issued by the city. Others believe that they are held hostage by prices that are too high. An unpopular measure that is “difficult to implement,” according to Paris city officials. Faced with the growing number of two-wheelers in the capital, the city hall explains that it has no other choice but to better regulate the public space. David Belyard, deputy responsible for the transformation of public space, explains to our colleagues at Parisian that “The introduction of paid parking made it possible to better regulate public space in the 1970s. We hope the same will apply to motorized two-wheelers.”.
“This is a measure of justice”
