We know that going on the road is never trivial. And for good reasons, we sometimes tend to forget about it, but the car remains dangerous, especially when the driving conditions are not optimal. This is especially true at night, as well as in the middle of winter, when it is cold and foggy. Not to mentionDrunk driving, which is still taking its toll, as is fatigue. Be that as it may, road deaths are still a reality, even if the numbers have improved significantly over the decades thanks to technological improvements in cars. However, it is still possible to die while driving, or if you are a pedestrian or cyclist.

The number is growing
And, unfortunately, the latest data is not necessarily too encouraging. So, at least 354 people died on the roads in JulyNational Interministerial Observatory of Road Traffic Safety (UNISR). A pretty big number, which is also up 12% from last year and up 8% from July 2019 before the healthcare crisis. This goes hand in hand with a travel increase of around 5% depending on CEREMA, and on the weekend traffic increased even by 10%. So much travel, which of course contributes to accidents. But motorists are not the only victims.
Pedestrians pay a high price
Indeed, with 44 fatalities last month, 10 more than last year, pedestrians are particularly victims of road accidents. This also applies to cyclists, 27 of whom died in July, four more than in 2021. In general and according to road safety, the number of accidents has decreased, but they are generally so serious that they are fatal. On the other hand, in the overseas departments, the death rate decreased somewhat, by 23 people less than last year.
