BMW M has started the first road tests a Prototype 100% electric sports carwhich will allow it to develop the engine, chassis, and hardware and software solutions for its future all-electric sports cars.

The prototype is equipped with a system to all-wheel driveconsisting of four electric motors and an integrated traction control system that offers a new level of performance and sportiness hitherto unknown to BMW.

BMW M: 50th anniversary of the sports division

This year, BMW M celebrates 50 yearsand this is the first time that the sports division of the Bavarian manufacturer has started the transition to 100% electric mobility.

The Bavarian firm also used the event to launch the BMW i4 M50 and BMW iX M60, while the BMW i7 M70, the first BMW M model based on a 100% electric high-end sedan, is due next year.

BMW M: The basic BMW i4 M50

From the outside, this prototype is equipped with colored camouflage based on the BMW i4 M50, it hides a completely new technical architecture. Its bodywork was modified, in particular, to widen the wheel arches, which made it possible to accommodate completely new front and rear axles.

Meanwhile, the front end of the car has benefited from the work started on the M3 and M4 to provide more torsional rigidity in sporty driving situations, and we also find a cooling system there to provide more performance.

BMW M: the new generation of the xDrive system

But this signed BMW M prototype is equipped with unprecedented all-wheel drive systembaptized M xDrive and equipped four independent electric motors. This configuration allows for a more precise distribution of torque to each of the wheels, providing unprecedented performance.

Indeed, four motorizations are connected to a control unit that is capableanalyze in real time driving conditions and the driver’s wishes, using the values ​​of accelerator pedal pressure, steering wheel angle, longitudinal and lateral acceleration, wheel speed and other parameters. AND braking energy recovery system makes it possible to re-introduce electricity into the high-voltage battery and thus optimize its autonomy.
