The Volvo XC90 has been on the market for some time. Indeed, the current generation was officially introduced in 2015, replacing the first one that hit the market in 2002. Restyling took place in 2019, giving a more modern look to the largest model in the catalog. However, then the changes remained relatively inconspicuous, focusing, as always, on the front panel. But the company is already planning new things for its flagship. Indeed, we know what the Scandinavian manufacturer wants massively electrify your range. To do this, new models should be released, but there are also plans to transform existing cars. And the XC90 should definitely be one of them. At any rate, that’s what some images from a patent application currently making the rounds online suggest.

A new generation of electricity?
There is currently no indication that these images show the final version of the SUV. Nevertheless, the resemblance remains striking, and there is a very good chance that it is. Especially since the car drives code name “EXC90”. All the same, a completely random coincidence, it must be admitted. But that’s not all. A few months ago, the head of Volvo Håkan Samuelsson confirmed that the large SUV will have a successor, and the name of the latter will start with a vowel. In short, there is a good chance that the car in the photo is the next XC90 in its electric version. But other than that, it’s true that we still know very little about him.
Launch imminent?
However, all indications are that this new, completely redesigned version will sell in parallel with the thermal option, which will be updated in 2023. If the electric model were to hit the market this year, it would also have to launch next year due to semiconductor shortages and other logistical issues. Unfortunately, there is little information about it, but there is no doubt that this variant will be based on a new platform and may have an unprecedented electric motor. Unless it replaces the 408 horsepower power unit from the XC40 and C40 Recharge?
