As you know, the discount of 18 cents, introduced by the government on April 1, will not last forever. The latter really voted a few days ago for its gradual disappearance until the end of the year. Therefore, it will be done in stages so as not to anger motorists too much. Because even if the price of fuel has fallen a bit in recent weeks, the situation is still very tense: a liter of unleaded gasoline is still above 1.80 euros. If the discount remains the same throughout August, it will drop to 30 cents in September by October. It will then drop to 10 cents in November before disappearing for good. But distributors want to continue helping their customers. This is especially true TotalEnergieswhich will offer a 20-cent increase at its stations.

Unpleasant help

The big help, which will come into effect in September and run until November, before dropping to 10 cents. If motorists are clearly delighted, this does not necessarily apply to managers of independent service stations. In Reunion, for example, the concern is already very strong. The latter really condemn a unfair competition. But that’s not all, because this discount can cause a massive influx of customers to the resorts. The President of the Union of Service Station Operators (SRESS) Gerard Lebon emphasizes that ” if implemented on September 1, 360,000 motorists will travel to 45 common stations on the island. We will find ourselves in the same situation of the managers’ strike. I’ll let you imagine what will happen“.

To decline?

Therefore, the unions negotiated with the prefecture and chose a discount of 9 cents to be applied by the STO to reach a compromise. Therefore, Total must also reduce the amount of its aid. So far, Total does not appear to have responded to the request, while other meetings are scheduled for the next few weeks. Thierry Legro, delegate-president of the trade union, also appeals to the government: ” If 20 cents is fixed, how can the government support the network if we don’t want to destabilize the whole system? It remains to be seen if this request will be granted…
