Dacia Duster, released in 2010, became an immediate success. An adventurous look, but a family vocation, proven underwear and, above all, very attractive prices, he quickly became the star of the brand. Therefore, it is logical to find many of them on the second-hand market today. A tempting purchase, especially since its engines remain classified Crit’air 1 (petrol) or 2 (diesel), and therefore can still drive in big cities for several years. Very few compact SUVs at this price can claim the same treatment. But be careful, some versions are absolutely to be avoided and the rating is holding up very well. Therefore, we will help you choose the best version for the used Dacia Duster at its best!
Used Dacia Duster: which finish to choose?
True to the spirit of the range, the entry-level Dacia Duster is very restrained. Too much so, since the base trim doesn’t include air conditioning, power windows, or a height-adjustable steering wheel. It is also necessary to wait for the second level of processing, which is called “Laureate”, for the air conditioner to appear, as well as the on-board computer.
But the choice remained, aim for the highest finisher, Prestige, instead. It still has modern equipment, especially after a major facelift at the end of 2013. Among other things we find a central touchscreen with GPS, reversing radar and cruise control/speed limiter. Enough to provide absolutely modern services, and bet on a more stable resale price.
Dacia Duster engines: good on diesel, disastrous on gasoline
As with many models of this period in the Renault group, the 1.2 TCe petrol engine should be avoided absolutely. Despite the good performance and, above all, the correct consumption, this engine in the 125 hp version. has very serious reliability issues. You run the risk of engine failure, especially if the car has more than 100,000 km. So avoid.
Another gasoline unit has proven itself. It is about 1.6 16V atmospheric 105 hp, already present on many Renault Clio, Mégane, etc. from the early 2000s. On the other hand, its performance is a bit fair in this use, especially as it is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, the only one in the range. Suddenly, the average consumption skyrocketed: consider about 9.4 l/100 km!
Therefore, an ambiguous record for gasoline. On the other hand, there are better side diesels. This is approximately proven 1.5 DCi, as an option with a capacity of 90 or 110 hp. The former consumes relatively little and remains reliable, but its approval is poor. in 110 hp therefore remains the version of choice, with similar consoles, but with much better performance. Prefer a model after 2013 to take advantage of some modifications that increase its reliability.
Dacia Duster 1.5 DCi 110 Prestige: the perfect version?
As you have already understood, the Prestige trim is still relevant today, and the DCi 110 diesel combines pleasure, reliability and low fuel consumption. Undoubtedly the best Duster 1. To improve the SUV even more, take aim restyling version (2014-2017), better equipped and more reliable. A copy with up to 110,000 km can be found for 9,000 euros.
