The reference mobility club in Switzerland, Touring Club Suisse (TCS), conducted extensive testing 21 motor homes and campersto assess their capacity for accommodation child seatsfor family trips.

In general, campers are the closest to cars and have well-made child seat mounting systems as standard. But motorhomes and built-in motorhomes won’t be left behind, reassuring models for families.

Houses on wheels: the most suitable models for children’s seats

In the TCS tests, several models stand out for their ability to accommodate child seats: the model that made the best impression was the Volkswagen Transporter T6.1 California van, which received the maximum score 5 stars (“perfectly”).

Get multiple models 4 stars (“Highly recommended”): the Renault Trafic-based Hanroad Trek 5 van, the Carado A 461 motorhome with cab, or even the built-in Sunlight I 68, which comes with Isofix and Top-Tether as standard.

Homes on wheels: the least suitable models for children’s seats

No fewer than 11 models scored “poor” on TCS with a score 3 stars (“recommended”): Bantam V 630 G, Bürstner Campeo C600, Hymer Free S 600 and VanTourer 600 L vans, as well as Ahorn T 690, Carado T338, Hobby Optima V 65 GF OnTour, Sunlight T 68 Adventure Edition motorhomes, Weinsberg CaraSuite 650 MG, Bürstner 695 G and Hymer Exsis-i 474.

Finally, six models were rated 2 stars (“recommended with reservations”): Hobby Vantana K60 De Luxe camper, as well as Carthago T 143 LE, Hymer B-Class ModernComfort T 580, Malibu T 740 Touring, Laika Kosmo 209 and Niesmann+Bischoff iSmove 6.9 E motor homes.

Motorhomes: how to check their compatibility with child seats?

If you want to travel in a motorhome or van with children, you need to consider a few points. Check availability Isofix and Top Tether mountswhich will allow you to install child seats and make sure there is enough space to fit two child seats side by side.
