After losing the first set to the Ukrainian, Bara won the second and sent the match to the decisive stage.
He missed four match points in the third set, but closed out the game after almost two and a half hours.
For reaching the second round, the Romanian secured a check for $4,040 and 30 points in the WTA ranking.
In the second round, Iryna Bara will meet the winner between Argentinean Nadia Podoroska (67 WTA, number 5 favorite) and Brazilian Laura Pigossi (119 WTA).
Romanian Anka Todoni (217 WTA) is also playing in Bogota’s main draw.
