In anticipation of the appearance of the new standard General Safety Regulation 2 (GSR 2) on July 7, 2024, the European organization Euro NCAP is interested security systems and collision avoidance 8 small cargo vans.
Utility vans: 8 models rated
Unlike the classic Euro NCAP crash tests for passenger cars, the safety assessment of these passenger vans was carried out exclusively on the basis of the analysis of safety systems and collision prevention. Really, EuroNCAP clarifies that when a cargo van is involved in a traffic accident, the victims are usually the oncoming vehicle or vulnerable road users.
“As small cargo vans are often derived from passenger cars, when equipped with high-performance equipment, their drivers can expect optimal levels of safety. So it is good news that the results obtained in this evaluation are mainly classified as gold and platinum. However, Euro NCAP rated vans for which this safety equipment is mostly offered as an option”said Dr. Aled Williams, director of the Euro NCAP program.
Euro NCAP examined in detail the safety systems of the following 8 minibuses: Citroën Berlingo, as well as its cousins Fiat Doblo, Opel Combo and Peugeot Partner, Mercedes Citan, Renault Kangoo Van, Volkswagen Caddy Cargo, as well as Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo.
Safety systems are evaluated by Euro NCAP
Euro NCAP indicates that small vans are better equipped with safety technology than large vans, due to their size being close to passenger cars and being sold with equivalent passenger car versions. Advanced driver assistance technologies have a direct impact on the safety of drivers, other vehicles and vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, motorized two-wheelers and cyclists.
