Kang In Lee’s public apology after breaking Hyun Min Sung’s finger

It all came before a 2-0 defeat to Jordan in the competition’s semi-finals, a result that extended a 64-year wait for another continental title and led to the sacking of coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

“It happened when some of the younger players went to play table tennis and Hyung Min-sung and other senior players expressed their displeasure. There was an argument between the players and Son injured his finger,” a South Korea Football Association official said in February.

After the tournament in Qatar, Son played for Tottenham with the index and middle fingers of his right hand bandaged together.

After the incident, Lee was heavily criticized in South Korea, where Son remains the most popular athlete. During practice at Seoul Stadium on Wednesday, Kang-in bowed to apologize and spoke into multiple microphones.

“I received so much love and support from the fans during the Asian Cup, but I did not repay my fans and let them down. Criticism from everyone will help me along the way. I will strive to become a better person and a better football player, someone who can help the team and set a good example” – Kang-in Leeon Wednesday, to Korean media.

Earlier in the day, Son said Lee had offered a “sincere apology” at the team dinner on Tuesday, and the players fully accepted it.

“It takes courage to apologize, and Kang In stood in front of everyone to do so sincerely. I think it allowed everyone to get closer. The vibration in the room is not too bad. I think you won’t have to write about my finger anymore” – Hyun Min Sung.
