New Peugeot 5008 (2024): bigger, seven-seater and now electric News from Auto Plus in your smartphone

The end of the career of the Peugeot 5008 was quite confidential, since the manufacturer did not offer, unlike its technical relative, the second generation 3008, hybrid versions from the electric grid. All that will change for this third generation 5008 as it will be offered in a hybrid, but also with no less than three 100% electric versionslike the recently introduced 3008.

An opportunity also for families to get a new seven-seater SUV in a segment that is not necessarily legion, except for models like the Kia EV9 or the Mercedes EQB. In the thermohybrid segment, the 5008 will have to compete with the Skoda Kodiaq or the Renault Espace.

Is this Peugeot 5008 bigger and more livable?

Why choose 5008 instead of 3008? Of course, for habitability. And taking into account the dimensions, this 5008 will be capacious, because actually is from 4.64 meters to 4.79 meters. It’s also 25cm longer than the new 3008. However, up to the center pillar, the designers managed to keep the silhouette of the 3008. The rear is obviously less smooth than its smaller cousin, a little more boxy than the previous generation, which allows quite a lot of space aboard. The lines are stretched to accompany the long wheelbase of the new STLA Medium platform, which has been increased to 2.90 meters (2.73 meters on the new 3008 and 2.84 meters on the old 5008).
From a design point of view, this is not surprising at all. But what about the interior and, above all, home appliances? with 748 l in a five-seater configurationWith the third-row seats folded, it gains 47 liters compared to the previous model. Only if you remove the seats of the third row, the old 5008 retains a larger volume (780 liters).

Finally a third row worthy of the name?

In fact, this new Peugeot 5008 has gained practicality with seven seats spread out, as volume has doubled from the old one to 259 liters (a further 50 liters less for the twin-motor electric version), including a deep space under the double floor that extends to the rear seats . In this regard, despite the different architecture of the third row seats, which no longer disappear into the floor and are not removable, The 5008 is a step up and offers much more boot space than the original seven-seater version.
Overall, the third row is also more welcoming as the seats have been raised and offer better posture, less legroom and better forward visibility. Once all the seat backs are folded down, creating an almost flat floor, the Peugeot 5008 offers a volume of 1815 liters to the ceiling, or 47 liters less than the old one.

A bit of techno, that’s what

As you can see in the photos, the new Peugeot 5008 takes up the entire dashboard of the 3008. It’s always impressive thanks to the famous Panoramic i-Cockpit panel and its 21-inch XXL floating screen with GT coating.
The atmosphere is clearly captured by its enveloping design and quality materials, fabrics and aluminum veneer. As with the latest Stellantis models, the Peugeot 5008 is equipped with ChatGPT and TomTom navigation with integrated grid charging planning.
As for driver assistance, it’s the usual package with all the new systems that have become mandatory in Europe and Level 2 semi-autonomous driving.

Spoiled with engine choice

Where the old 5008 didn’t really leave a choice in terms of petrol or diesel-only engines, the new one is much more open at this level. Five engines will be offered. HAS at launch, the seven-seat SUV will be available as a 48-volt micro-hybrid 136 hplike the current model with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder PureTech engine and a new hybrid package 195 hp with battery 17.9 kWh net, offer Electric range of 80 km. The gasoline engine that will power this PHEV version will be a 1.6-liter PureTech four-cylinder engine.
On the version side electric, same as 3008, model 210 hp first proposed. The announced autonomy is 502 km with a battery with a capacity of 73 kWh and fast charging at a peak power of 160 kW, which allows you to go from 20 to 80% battery charge in 30 minutes.
At the very beginning of 2025, the catalog will be replenished with a two-engine version 320 hp equipped with the same battery (500 km of autonomy), as well as the Long Range version 230 hp and equipped with a 98 kWh battery, announcing 660 kmor about forty kilometers less than the e-3008 announced with the same battery.

How much is this new Peugeot 5008?

The design of the 5008 line will be identical to the design of the 3008 model, with two trims planned: Allure and GT. and three option packages will no doubt allow the top versions to retain the environmental bonus in electric form. At the moment, we don’t know the price of the model yet, but we estimate that they should start a little more than 40,000 euros for the micro-hybrid version with a capacity of 136 hp. You will probably have to pay for electricity 46,900 euros in the base price, the minimum price so as not to exceed the bonus threshold.

Prices will be announced when orders open in June, and first deliveries from the Sochaux plant will begin in September next year.
