The city of Arad will be monitored by 1,500 video cameras that will be installed on the streets as part of a project estimated at 11 million euros, the system will be “the most efficient in the country” that also integrates artificial intelligence, announced on Monday, mayor Kelin Bibarz, quoted by Agerpres.

According to the mayor, the cameras will monitor the entire city to improve public safety, better manage traffic, prevent and investigate traffic crimes, ensure public safety and improve operational efficiency.

The municipality will lease the system for three years, during which it will receive operation and maintenance services. After the end of the rental period, the video cameras will enter the municipality.

“We are at the stage of the feasibility study, which has been approved by the Digitalization Authority of Romania, an absolutely necessary step that confirms, on the one hand, that the equipment is not intended for a specific company, but also for the fact that they have the capacity to be integrated into everything , which means digitization, not only in the city, but also at the level of the entire country,” said the mayor of PNL.

“After the approval of the study by the city council, a tender for design and implementation is launched. As usual, design will be done in autumn and winter, and implementation will begin next year. In addition to the cameras, which will be divided into several categories – those that read license plates, those that can give an alarm about certain problems near schools, those that signal fires, traffic jams, etc. – the software that integrates with the e-ticket is important for remote control,” explained Kelin Bibarts.

Mayor Arad says the system will be able to report “any problem” to authorities in real time

According to the mayor of Arada, the system has the ability to signal in real time about “any problem” that occurs at the municipal level, and to notify the nearest brigade that could go to the place to intervene “in the shortest possible time”. .

“It will be the most effective system in Romania and the only one capable of integrating all the others,” Mayor Arada emphasized.

The mayor also said that the advantage of using artificial intelligence in video surveillance (closed circuit television) systems is that “suspicious behavior” is detected automatically.

It would also be possible to automatically recognize objects and people and analyze images, leading to optimization of human resources and rapid response to incidents.

Arad currently has a digital video system consisting of 84 surveillance cameras monitored by the local police, installed as part of a European-funded project. This system covers only a few important places in the city.
