Marcel Čolaku on Sunday denied any interference in the Central Election Bureau’s decision to reject the protocol for the creation of the United Right Alliance formed by USR, PMP and Forţa Dreptei, claiming that he did not even know the names of the judges.
- “Since I am a politician, I have never commented on any decision of any magistrate. No decision of the Constitutional Court. This is how the rule of law is protected. Those who until now accused that the PSD covers corruption, that the PSD does not know what it is doing, that the PSD… You can’t live your whole life, you can’t be the leader of the opposition just because of hatred and be only against the PSD. We need to build something. They had the opportunity to build together with the PNL for eight months or as long as there was a grand right-wing coalition. And I saw what was left behind, a disaster, zero European funds, the PNRR, which we have to constantly negotiate, not a single kilometer of highway,” Çolaku said on Digi24, according to News.ro.
He said that he does not even know the names of the judges of the Supreme Court who are part of the Central Election Bureau.
- “The Central Election Bureau includes seven judges of the Supreme Court. Did Cholaku manage to summon a seven? I don’t know their names, ma’am. (…) This is done by voting. I have not spoken to a PSD representative to tell me. Everyone does their own thing. If he reported something, the seven judges of the High Court decided. Does this mean that PSD no longer has the right to report illegality?”, Çolaku also stated.
- When asked why it was illegal, the SPD leader replied: “Well, I don’t know. If the judge’s decision, how do I know? I am a judge, am I a BEC member? If I were a member of the BEC, I would come to you and explain the matter in detail.”
Cholak was also asked if he was involved in this whole story.
- “But what mixture do I have? I am no longer allowed, PSD is no longer allowed to say sir, are you wrong? Sir, have you broken the law? why They have the right to speak, Ms. Clotilde, to shout everywhere, to say that justice is enslaved, that there are no punishments, that Mr. Voiculescu did not steal vaccines. Lord, what do we live for? Do they still want government jobs without penalties or not? Do they still want that referendum? I will suggest to colleagues from the Senate to vote, to hold a referendum. Let’s see what the Romanians will say. You cannot, when it is convenient for you, make a speech, and when it happens to you, say that the lord is enslaved by justice,” Marcel also conveyed to Cholak.
USR President Katelin Drula charged that the BEC’s decision to reject the constitutional protocol was made at PSD’s request.
“This is an act of political aggression by Yohannis, Çolaku and Chuke that shows the whole country how far we have come with the state of democracy,” Drula said.
The USR leader also announced that the decision would be challenged at the High Court of Cassation and Justice, while Forța Dreptei president Ludovic Orbán condemned the “political decision”.
