PSD First Vice President Sorin Grindeanu said on Saturday afternoon that the Social Democrats and Liberals should have common candidates in the local elections in Bucharest. He clarified that although in recent days it seemed that each party would go with its own candidate for the capital city hall, he believes that the joint candidacy is an important signal, and not only for Bucharest, but also for what was agreed on, namely the list , common in the elections to the European Parliament, News.ro notes.
Sorin Grindean was asked on Digi 24 on Saturday about the stalemate in creating a joint PSD-PNL candidate for the capital’s mayor’s office.
“The following is important. Let’s look at Bucharest, and not only Bucharest, there are other places in the country where you can have joint candidates from PSD and PNL. I do not encourage this. I also told you that in the local elections it would be best to run separately, but there will be places where there will be joint candidates, not only in Bucharest. I think Bucharest needs a new administration. And Timisoara, for example, needs a new administration. And I tell you that it is also safe in other cities of the country,” Grindyanu said.
He was also asked if it would be good for the PSD to go with Gabriela Firea as a candidate for the capital city hall, given that she lost to the current mayor four years ago.
“And four years ago, he would have been a better option than Nikushor Dan. He is also a better option than Nikuzor Dan today. I think we should have common candidates for Bucharest. Even if in recent days it seemed that everyone would come out with their candidate. I think this is an important signal not only for Bucharest, it is an important signal for what we have already agreed on, to have joint lists for European parliamentarians,” said the first vice-president of the PSD.
He noted that the future candidate for the capital’s mayor’s office should be determined by both parties.
“And when we talk about joint candidacies, it is not only PSD or not only PNL that decides. We decide together who this general candidate will be, whether he is political or liberal. Because you can come up with candidates who… for nothing you have a joint PSD-PNL candidate but he doesn’t get any votes, if he’s a PSD-ist he doesn’t get any votes from the PNL. Or, if he is a liberal, he does not take votes from the PSD. That is, it causes a lot of negative reaction, even if we put forward a joint candidacy,” Grindyanu explained.
He admitted that the mayor of the 5th sector, Christian Popescu Piedone, has a chance to win the mayor’s office.
“Piedone has a very good chance? Know what he has. I don’t know if he wants to run for mayor general or if he wants to stay and run for sector 5. But he is seen very well, I am talking about the credibility he has because it was also a poll. Beluce has very good confidence,” Sorin Grindianu also stated.
