“The trial in this case is postponed for 30 days from the date” of March 14, when the Manhattan district attorney gave the green light for the one-month delay, New York District Court Judge Juan Merchan ruled.

This means that this historic trial, for which Donald Trump actually faces prison terms, could begin in mid-April.

The New York State Supreme Criminal Court will convene for a preliminary hearing on March 25 to set a new date, according to Judge Merchan’s order.

Manhattan New York State’s Attorney Alvin Bragg said Thursday night that he was willing to delay the trial for 30 days at the request of the defense.

It gives an extra reprieve for the Republican presidential candidate in November, whose lawyers are seeking to delay the opening of the four criminal trials against their client for as long as possible.

Donald Trump’s lawyers asked for a postponement of the trial to await a decision by the US Supreme Court in Washington on his presidential immunity.

The prosecution said it was “preparing for trial on March 25” but “would not mind a delay of up to 30 days to allow the defense to review” new documents filed in the trial, the Manhattan DA’s office said. Alvin Bragg.
