Holger Roon advanced to the quarters of the Indian Wells Masters on Thursday, the Patrik Muratoglu-coached Dane ousting two-year-old champion American Taylor Fritz 2-6, 7-6(2), 6-3.

Seeded 12 in the tournament in the California desert, Fritz came into the match better, had a high level of play and the first set went back to him quite clearly with a score of 6-2.

The 2022 champion Taylor even had a match point in the second set at 5-4 in his favor.

Rune managed to save the game on serve and the match, and the set went to a tiebreak.

Fritz’s game effectively collapsed at the end of the set, and Holger won the second set, 7-2 in a tiebreak.

Marked by the fact that he missed the match point, Fritz did not find the same level of play anymore, and in the fourth game he surrendered his serve. It was the break that made the difference, Rune winning 6-3.

The match lasted two hours and 20 minutes.
