
The head of the European Commission (EC) representation in Romania, Ramona Kyriac, has temporarily removed herself from her position in order to be able to run for office in the elections to the European Parliament on June 9. She will take first place in the joint lists of PSD and PNL, the coalition leaders decided at a meeting held on Monday.
Ramona Kyriac removed herself from her position in the Representation of the European Commission in Romania, her place will be taken by Deputy Head Mara Roman.
“Like any European citizen, officials and temporary agents of the European Commission have the right to stand for election. Mrs. Ramona Kyriac, head of the European Commission Representation in Romania, has already informed the higher hierarchical forums and relevant services of the European Commission about the decision to run for office in the elections to the European Parliament,” the press release states.
Kyriac went on unpaid leave.
“At the same time, taking into account the provisions of the Regulation establishing the status of officials and the regime applicable to other agents of the European Economic Community and the European Atomic Energy Community, as well as the internal procedures of the European Commission, Ms. Kyriak submitted a request for suspension by approving leave without pay for personal reasons of an imperative nature in accordance with the provisions of Article 17 of the aforementioned regulation,” the same press release states.
Who is Ramona Kyriac?
