
Large taxpayers paid more than 180.2 billion lei in taxes last year, which is 46.6% of the total revenues collected by ANAF, according to the institution’s latest report. This is under conditions when in 2023 there were 1.99 million active taxpayers, of which 1.31 million were legal entities.
We remind you that since the beginning of 2024, the number of these large companies has decreased to 2,488 from a little more than 3,200.

A look at the revenues collected by ANAF in 2023 from large companies shows that the amounts directed to the state budget decreased slightly, i.e. by 1.2%, to 122.7 billion lei.
In the rest, there is an increase in other budgets, that is, in state social insurance by 13.2% (up to 40.6 billion lei), in the unemployment budget by 5.3% (up to 1.04 billion lei) and in health care. by 12.9% (up to 15.79 billion lei).
Regarding all taxpayers, both large, medium and small, the ANAF report shows that the number of inspections carried out as part of the activities of tax inspectorates decreased by 3.1% to 33,913. Yes, the number of fines applied decreased by 25%, but the number of initiated criminal cases increased by 13.4% to 270.
In terms of anti-fraud activities, checks here increased by 10.1% to 39,279 in 2023, and the number of fines increased by 7.1% to 19,475, amounting to 136.3 million lei.
The cost of the fee was slightly reduced, respectively by 0.01%, i.e. ANAF spent 7,211 lei together with employees for one million lei of net budget revenues.
