After Emmanuel Macron’s election, social media regularly circulated conspiracy theories claiming that Brigitte Macron, born Tronier, is actually a transgender woman whose birth name was Jean-Michel.
According to these rumors, a massive conspiracy was created to cover up this change in marital status, which also led to more serious child abuse allegations against the First Lady.
Macron wants to strengthen “digital public order”
“Against this machismo, we must use the law, justice,” Macron argued, calling for the strengthening of “digital public order” on social networks, “a formidable place for the expression of the most insane.”
On March 6, 2025, two women will be tried in Paris on charges of defamation for allegedly spreading transphobic rumors about the wife of the head of state, AFP reports.
Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and former US First Lady Michelle Obama have also been the subject of rumors that they were born male.
President Macron assessed that “a lot of work needs to be done in terms of education” and argued that “the feminist struggle is not only the struggle of women, it is also the struggle of men and women.”
