
In Karelia, FSB officers shot dead an activist from Belarus

In the Olonetsky District of the Republic of Karelia, Russian FSB officers shot and killed 49-year-old Belarusian opposition activist Nikolai Alekseev on Wednesday, March 6. This was reported by the ASTRA telegram channel on Thursday, March 7th. The Interfax news agency also writes about the murder of the activist with reference to the FSB Public Relations Center.
According to the FSB, during his arrest, Nikolai Alekseev opened fire on employees of the Russian special services and was killed “during a clash”. The FSB also claims that the Belarusian, on the instructions of the Ukrainian special services, was going to blow up one of the administrative buildings in the city of Olonets. In addition, the Russian special service stated that Alekseev was on the interstate wanted list due to the fact that he was a member of the “Kastus Kalinovsky Regiment” – a detachment of Belarusian volunteers fighting against Russia on the side of Ukraine.
According to ASTRA, Nikolai Alekseev actively opposed Belarusian ruler Alexander Lukashenko, published photos of mass protests in Belarus in 2020, and also posted social media posts about human rights violations in the country.
