There is no way out of the conflict in Ukraine, and it paralyzes European politics, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in Antalya, where he took part in the Antalya Diplomatic Forum (ADF) at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. According to the prime minister, first of all it is necessary to decide in whose favor time works, because this is the most important issue.

“If you believe that time works in favor of the Ukrainians and the West, and that the continuation of the war can bring Ukraine military success, then the continuation makes sense. If you believe that time is working in Russia’s favor, and that the continuation of the war will bring success to Russia, then it would be better if everything stopped now. I personally belong to those who believe that this is the second option,” Viktor Orban explained.

According to the Prime Minister, “we are in trouble” because since the beginning of the war, many countries – with the exception of Hungary – talk about it as “our war”, and if it is our war, and the enemy is stronger and occupies territories, then we are too we find ourselves on the losing side. It is very difficult to explain how to act and how to get out of it if we lose the war, added Orbán.

The head of government from Budapest also talked about the fact that he is often called Putin’s puppy, that is, a Trojan horse.

“I would recommend psychotherapy for this. This is not a political debate,” Viktor Orban said.

The Prime Minister of Hungary said that he looks at the war in Ukraine not through Ukrainian glasses or Putin’s glasses, but through Hungarian glasses.

“I have to represent my country and my nation, and I know what the interests of Hungarians are. If something is good for Hungarians, I support it, if it is not good for them, I am against it. It’s very simple,” said the prime minister.

Hungarians from Transcarpathia “die in the war in Ukraine”

Viktor Orban also mentioned the Hungarians from Transcarpathia, people who have lived there for a thousand years and now serve in the Ukrainian army.

The Prime Minister was asked whether he sees Hungary’s future in the European Union. “Of course,” Viktor Orban said, adding that “whoever is Hungarian is European.”

“Hungary will always have a special geopolitical place in the European Union,” the Hungarian politician emphasized, also mentioning that Hungary is a member of the Turkish Council, as it is the only nation of Eastern origin in Europe, “or at least the only one that is proud of it.”

The prime minister emphasized that he wants to remain in the European Union, but his goal is for the conservative camp to become the majority.

Viktor Orbán has confirmed that he will meet in Florida next week with former US President Donald Trump, whom he says he has great respect for. According to the Prime Minister of Hungary, if he had been president when the war in Ukraine started, there would be no more war today, and the only serious chance for peace is if he becomes president again.
